The "twins who match" obsession

Jack & Jill, Tom & Jerry, William & Kate... When Aussie parents have twins, they can't help but name them as a pair. It's like they're ordering a combo meal.

The tradition started with the old nursery rhymes. Jack and Jill went up the hill, so obviously their names go together. Tom and Jerry chased each other around, so obviously their names go together. William and Kate got married, so obviously their names go together. It's like naming your twins after a duo.

The funny thing is, the trend has gone a bit too far. Now we're naming twins things like "Brooklyn and Bailyn" or "Jaxon and Jaxsyn". It's like you're not even naming them individually — you're just naming a pair. And the poor kids have to live with it for the rest of their lives.

Don't get us wrong, there's something cute about twins who match. But maybe give them their own identity? Just a thought. Or, you know, don't. It's your call. We're just here for the entertainment.
