When celebrities name their babies, Australia listens
Blue Ivy, North, Saint, Chicago... When Hollywood names a baby, the world pays attention. But do Aussie parents actually copy? The short answer is: sort of, but not in the way you think.
Kim Kardashian named her daughter North, and suddenly everyone was talking about it. But did any actual Aussie baby get named North? Nope. We're a bit too practical for that. We like our names to sound normal on a kindergarten enrolment form, not like a GPS direction.
What we do copy is the vibe. When Beyoncé named her daughter Blue Ivy, parents started looking for names that were a bit more... artistic. Willow, Sage, River — nature names that feel creative but still sound like a real person. When the Beckhams named their kids Brooklyn, Romeo, Cruz — we thought it was cute, but we weren't about to name our son after a suburb of Melbourne.
The real celebrity effect is more subtle. A celebrity uses a name we've never heard of, and suddenly it's on our radar. We might not name our daughter Apple, but we might consider Isla because a celebrity mentioned it. It's less "copy what they did" and more "thanks for the recommendation."
